The instrument themselves simulate the movements of the hand. The vision is binocular and simulates what you see in a magnified sense. In some ways, it’s better than being there. The major benefits for the patient are a less invasive surgery, reduced cost because the patient is not going to be in the hospital as long, less pain and a safer surgery.

Dr. Dan Tomlinson, OB/Gyn

The interface between the surgeon and console and the console and robot is flawless. The movements are natural and are the same movements you make during an open case.

Dr. Paul Schroeder, OB/Gyn

Patients

"As far as I’m concerned, it's wonderful. I didn't feel like I'd been through surgery. It was so easy. The recovery was so fast and the pain just wasn't there. It's definitely the way to go. I'm so happy with it. I was a little nervous at first because it's new here, but it was almost unbelievable it was so easy."

Hysterectomy patient of Dr. Dan Tomlinson

"I don't let things worry me, so I wasn't too nervous. It looked like the best procedure for my medical circumstances. It was less invasive – I have six small scars across my stomach, but they are fading fast. It's been an easy recovery and no pain. All went well and the prognosis is complete recovery."

Prostate cancer patient of Dr. Bruce Barrows

"I had the surgery Thursday morning, went home from the hospital on Saturday, and was walking a mile on Sunday. Within a few weeks I went on a 60-mile mule ride along the Salmon River. The doctor made a few little cuts about a half-inch long, which have healed up real quick. I didn't lose hardly any blood and never had to take any pain pills when I got home. I've already recommended the surgery to a friend."

Two years ago, I had my prostatectomy robotic surgery out of state since it was not offered in the valley. The surgery went well with an overnight stay, minimal blood loss and essentially a full recovery. It will make it much more convenient for people to have the surgery at Providence Medford with doctors they now and can see for follow-up care after surgery.
